Today’s prompt is: Who is your ideal audience and what message do you want to convey?

Introduction

It’s important to know who you’re talking to. Who are you trying to help? Do they even need what you are trying to offer them?

Defining Your Ideal Audience

I’m writing for new and aspiring writers. I know what you need because not only have I done my research but I used to be you.

When you think about the people you are writing for, picture a younger you. It may be good to write content for who you were two years ago. What struggles did you have that you were able to overcome? What questions did you have that you now have the answers to? There are thousands of people that have those same issues and questions and it’s your duty to help them.

Understanding Their Needs

I was once one of the shyest, scariest people you’d ever meet. I hated to be in crowds. When I had to speak in front of a group of people I was always on the verge of having a panic attack. But I had a superpower. I could talk to one person at a time with ease. I could even throw in a joke or two.

When I started taking writing seriously, I was still shy. But when I figured out how to focus on just one person at a time, I was cured. I just thought about that person that was me before I got my mess together. I try to give them all of the game and guidance that I can think of to get them off the sidelines and back on the field, where they’re supposed to be.

Tailoring Your Message

One of my first business ventures was selling handmade items. One year, I sold crochet hats and scarves, the next year I sold personalized greeting cards, then the next year I sold beaded jewelry. In each one of those businesses I wanted to create one of a kind pieces for each customer.

That’s the approach I have with my writing business. For those who just need basic (free) information, that’s why I blog but for those who are  ready to invest in themselves, I provide coaching. For those who want to get something in the middle, I’m working on books, workbooks and planners. Something for everyone.

Establishing Connection

Whatever you are trying to teach your audience, no one will listen to you if they don’t trust you. Build a relationship with your readers. Let them get to know you by telling them a few personal stories about how you came up with the solution that you claim to have for their problem.

Engage with your readers in the comments. This will help them feel good about engaging with you and your content and your responsiveness will make them come back for more.

Providing Solutions

Just because it’s free doesn’t mean it shouldn’t have value. I always keep this in mind when I’m working on a blog post. If I give someone information that they need, when I offer that product, you may take a chance on me. You’ll think, “Her free advice is good. I bet her paid products are incredible.” And they will be.

Don’t just throw a plain slice of white bread on a plate, really put some meat and veggies on that sandwich. That way people will be lined up around the building for the full dinner.

Empowering Your Audience

I’m trying my best to give you information that empowers you. I hope you do the same for your readers. I want you to make your dreams come true. It’s important for me to help you find your purpose, because that’s my purpose. We weren’t put here to do life alone. Let me help you so you can help others.

At my good government job, I participated in this program called “Train the Trainer” that’s what I’m trying to do now. I want to train you to overcome your fears and pursue your purpose. Whatever your gifts are, I want to help you convey your solutions to your audience’s problems in the best way that you can.

Conclusion

Identifying your ideal audience and crafting your message are fundamental steps in effective communication. By understanding the needs of your audience and tailoring your message accordingly, you can establish a strong connection and provide valuable solutions.

Building trust through engagement and offering meaningful content, whether free or paid, empowers both you and your audience.

Remember, your purpose is to help others, and by sharing your knowledge and experiences, you can inspire and uplift those around you. Embrace the journey of empowerment, and together, let’s make a positive impact on the world.
